Conjunctivochalasis

Conjunctivochalasis is when your conjunctiva, the tissue covering the white part of your eye, starts to wrinkle, fold, and/or loosen. This is caused by aging. chronic dry eyes, and/or inflammation. Symptoms may include eye irritation, foreign body sensation, and increased dry eye symptoms.

We offer two different ways to treat Conjunctivochalasis in the office:

1. Laser

For this procedure Dr. Yee uses an Argon Laser to help shrink the loose conjunctiva, just like smoothing out a wrinkled bedsheet. You will be seated in an upright position, with your head in a chin rest, just like a routine eye exam.

2. Heated Probe

For this procedure, Dr. Yee will use a heated probe to shrink certain areas in your conjunctiva. You will be lying down on the exam chair while Dr. Yee uses a scope.

These are both in-office procedures. You will be thoroughly anesthetized with numbing eye drops, and we do not expect any adverse effects. Possible side effects may include blurred vision, swelling, mild eye discomfort, and redness around the eyes, which can last for a few days and up to a week

Cost:

These procedures are not currently covered by insurance

Laser: $1000 per eye out-of-pocket.

Heated Probe: $500 per eye out-of-pocket

Conjunctivochalasis Treatment in the Surgery Center

The loose conjunctival tissue can also be removed by a scalpel in the surgery center.

This method is covered by insurance - subject to all deductibles and out-of-pocket costs.
